Copied to the costume section....
Thought Id get the forum offering some useful information on how to make or do some stuff, Hopefully this will boost interest and member numbers further. This is the first one, please add any extra tips on the supject if you have them and if you have any wisdom for creativity please post a topic with your wise words.
This is how I made two hair falls, to go either side of the head.
You will need:
2 balls of wool, I used black, standard thickness. Each ball was 280mtrs.
Black elastic or ribbon 1inch wide, about 1metre would do.
A selection of ribbons and lace, about 1cm wide. Both black and coloured (whatever colour scheme you would like).
Scissors.
Start by working out how long you want the falls, then cut all the wool up into double that length as evenly as possible. This will take alittle while but the preparation will make it better in the long run. Store carefully in a carrier bag so it wont knot.
Tie the elastic/ribbon loosely around a chair slat or bedpost to make it easier to keep tension and so you dont need to grow extra arms.
Take up three strands of the wool and fold in half.
Loop sercurely around the inch wide elastic/ribbon.
Separate wool into three pair stands and plait. Keep a medium tension throughout the plait.
Knot at the bottom tightly.
Cut excess off so there is about 3cms of straight wool below the knot.
Repeat until you have made two falls, one ball worth of wool on each side.
To make them more interesting tie in some of you favourite ribbon and lace, by choosing coloured ribbon, you can coordinate your falls with a particular outfit.
Use different coloured wool to match your hair colour or to make them in your favourite colour. The possibilities are endless.
Have fun!
