Hello, Apart from the massed gatherings at Stonehenge / Avebury or other places - is anything going on in or around Salisbury on the weekend of the Summer Solstice 2009? (I'm in Salisbury from Friday 19th. June to Monday morning 22nd. June - I'll be at Stonehenge more than likely for the sunrise, as well as stocking up on on mammoth sized plant-pots in Andover at www.thegardensuperstore.co.uk/ - I can usually be found taking a fine breakfast at Cafe Monde when I stop in Salisbury a few times a year...) The end of May I got to a great performance of The Tallis Scholars doing among other works Allegri's Miserere in the Cathedral. Daniel (Cheshire) strangerover.livejournal.com/

Hey hey - there's actually a fair bit as the summer solstice brings in a fair amount people to happily trash the sacred space in the name of "worship" *cough* Sorry angst moment. Usually the solstice itself is such a big deal that not much else goes on in town at that point; everyone is just battening down the hatches.
There's a Beer Expo at the Salisbury Arts Centre on Saturday 20 June. The Stourhead House and Garden is always a lovely place to have a look round provided the weather holds. The Music festival is just done now, and I think there's an exhibit coming up at the local Museum.

Hi Dan, it's the Hyacinth Faery from the first ball (we chatted briefly).
I will have a look in my diary when I get home - I know there's something going on around the solstice, but I'm away from my diary at the moment.
Hope all's well with you. I've just added you on LiveJournal if that's okay.

"brings in a fair amount people to happily trash the sacred space in the name of "worship" *cough* Sorry angst moment"I went to last year's and was stunned at the amount of rubbish and litter left strewn about, to the point that I acquired a bag and started gathering some of it up and if I end up at Stonehenge rather than Avebury or somewhere more subtle, I'll be taking some rubbish bags with me, despite the stewards also in attendance for such things. "Stourhead House and Garden"A place I must get back to... strangerover.fotopic.net/p48435581.htmlI do however has some business to attend to in Andover (exciting, huh) on the Friday, Saturday or Monday morning, so will plan a day out around that and anything on in the evenings...

Oh bless, you've been to the gardens, lovely aren't they? Before my sprog was born I used to go to all the National Heritage Gardens for day out, was loads of fun. Not happening yet till he knows not to pull the flowers out the ground to present them to me, though (lovely thought but they don't approve much actually).
Ugh, don't get me started about the summer solstice trashing out...I'll rant.
Oh I don't know; I actually think Andover is rather pleasant - just going for a country drive or ramble has its charms, especially when the bluebells and rhodies are in bloom. But I'll admit I have no idea what's on over there, I tend to lean more towards museums and castle-gawking than clubbing these days. I'm boring.

Pick up some rubbish for me then *nod* I tend to head round sometimes for Winter Solstice just to avoid the carnival a bit. I've done a womble but I haven't found much else on, even the cathedral seems pretty quiet although I think there might be an organ recital on Friday, sprog really wanted to go up those stairs and see where the music was coming from last time we were there, thankfully everyone was rather forgiving of the five year old alternatively covering his ears and squealing with delight yelling "PLAY MORE PLAY MORE!!!!" when the music stopped /facepalm.

Thanks for the coffee! (which I realised afterwards I had rushed out and not paid for due to the Wumpy Sighting). I'll owe you one another time methinks- enjoy the Salisbury runabout!
Now...powernap.

12?! 12 by yourself?!
*mustnotfumemustnotfume*GRRR
Glad you had a decent time of it, we're all eating strawberries for aaaages at this point, and I've heard tell that it's National Herb Week this week. I'd be really tempted to visit a few herb gardens if we had some my way but maybe you could do some hunting about when you get home.
Safe journeys!
