This thread is for people to set up taxi shares up to the solstice, should that prove more appealing than the bus. After all the last bus leaves only 15 minutes after the ball ends and if you want to hang on till the last gasp you might miss it!
I'll sort out some contact details and prices etc for taxis. Apparently a 7-seater taxi will cost in the region of £22 but I'll confirm that and post the results here.
In the meantime, is there anyone interested in a taxi share? I don't mind coordinating stuff if necessary.

Hi FataNera, We are planning a trip to the stones, with at least 5 of us I believe so far, taxi is aprox £22 for a seven seater apparently up to stonehenge. We shall be at the ball, keep your eye out for a burlesque fairy, a ballgown fairy with a black wool and ribbon falls and a green fairy, that will be our group. Will probably be handing cards out advertising this forum if we get are arses in gear, but costumes come first There is also a bus which is £6 for a single £9 for a return and leaves from the railways station. Its a wilts & dorset are doing that as another possible route up there. Hoping to organise a main group during the end of the evening to go up to the stones in shared taxis.

Hi and welcome to the underground! You're welcome to join the forum - membership is free and only takes a few minutes to set up, if you click the register link at the top of the screen.
There will be six of us in our group going up to the stones, including myself and Purple Absinthe - leaving room for one in our seven seater, or if you're coming with someone and still want a share we could probably hire a smaller taxi as well and rejiggle people between the two so no-one's stuck paying an arm and a leg for transport.
Alternatively you can get the bus, like Purple Absinthe said it leaves from the train station but I've been told it also leaves from the bus station which is much closer to the ball (especially when tottering in 8 inch gothic platform heels and somewhat squiffy to boot).
Give us a shout here or via pm and we can get something sorted, otherwise we'll see you there!

OK well the latest state of play is that a couple of us have had things come up and now aren't sure whether we'll be able to go up to the stones after all. We won't know for sure until the actual day. So the plan is to still share taxis between all those who wish to go, but not to pre-book them as we don't want to tie ourselves down to expensive taxis we might not need.
If everyone that needs a taxi share conglomerates outside the guild hall at the end of the ball, then we can sort things out from there on. Look for a burlesque fairy, a green fairy, a ballgown fairy with big wings, a fairy with (I think) pink wings and arm warmers, and two long-suffering men probably not looking too enamoured of all the fairyness going on around them.
And if you can't see any of the above (maybe you stayed behind for just one last drink too many and missed us?), your best bet is to head just round the corner to the taxi rank and catch one of the ever-waiting taxis that lurk there. Not as cheap as sharing, but it'll get you there and we'll commiserate over your extra expenditure once you get the other end.
