Joined today and just wanted to say Hi to everyone. I stumbled on this site through spotting info relating to Darklight Industries and the dark fantasy ball displayed in a van parked at Whitby Goth festival a few days ago.... So thanks to whoever parked their van there

So thanks to whoever parked their van there Yay! Huge pat on the back for PA then cos it was her van! Pleased to meet you and please make yourself at home... it's been a little quiet since half the members were either at Whitby or else their computers have been on the fritz (are you off AOL yet V??) But things are about to pick up since most of us are starting to work on our ball costumes and the air will soon be a haze of people swearing and asking random questions about tin snips and pliers (whoops that'll be me then). And of course you get to laugh at us all because we're painting the town black this weekend so there'll be a chorus of hung over groans come Sunday. ~Acquiescence

I saw an interesting hair idea in whitby, some one had little black cones that they had pulled their hair in pieces up through so it stood up on end more but also gave style definition. I know a few people are thinking about their head/ hair part of the costume so thought Id pass on my findings.

Yes the weather wasnt great for the whitby weekend, but I enjoyed it despite great to see so many people dressed in their finery... Glad to hear I made somebody happy, it certainly made my day to read about such a wonderful venue, not too far from me. I cant wait to attend the Dark Fantasy Ball and am already excited about my costume!

It nice to find something down south, most adverts in whitby are leeds/London etc Ive found, which is always disappointing

Welcome Indigo! Very glad that you'll be coming to the Ball in Match! Hope to meet you then.
Well done Purple Absinthe for that inspired bit of marketing - it obviously worked!
And yes, I'm still on AOL - haven't had time to change over to Virgin yet, which is a bummer. I just have access to a pooter on Sunday and the occasional weekday (like today).

Thank you all for your warm welcome... Noticed stilletto heels are not permitted at the dark fantasy ball, so what will the ladies be wearing to set off their glamorous costumes? Dont fancy dancing in my New Rocks

Generally people seemed to wear high heels with the wider heel to them, boots, platforms and flats. Its just anything particularly pointy I believe (IE - Stillettoes) as it puts alot of pressure to one point which can damage their really really old floor. Id guess that those kitten heels (I think thats what they are called) would also be a no, the little ballet style flat shoes with a tiny stub heel to them.
My thinking is anything you cant more or less hide a pound coin under the heel is probably too pointy.
(WHATS YOUR THOUGHTS ACQUIESENCE?)

That sounds about right. I can't wear stillettos myself these days - unless I'm in the wheelchair, so if I walking it has to be flats. I got some ballet slippers and sewed purple roses on them this year for my hyacinth faery costume.

I was lazy this year and wore my boots that I wear for work cause my feet were hidden anyway so I couldnt be bothered to wear something awkward That makes me think, what am I going to wear on my feet for the next one! Maybe I should buy some nice ballet shoes.
